Guest House
Light & Airy
February 2026
Wade "Bigfoot" Tourdot
Green Lake, WI
Above the garage, this custom guest house packs a full living space into a compact footprint. A sitting area, a working kitchen, a bathroom, and sleeping for five, all under the slope of the roofline, make guests feel truly at home. It’s proof that a garage-top space doesn’t have to feel like an afterthought.
Paint Colors: Pure White (SW 7005)
This build leans bright and airy, but rich wood features help balance the brightness with rich warm tones. 100% real wood floating shelves and a solid maple bench top, finished in a custom stain paired with Pure White by Sherwin-Williams make for a fresh farmhouse feel. Shiplap paneling lines the angled ceiling throughout the sleeping nooks, turning what could have been an awkward, low-slope attic space into something that feels intentional and cozy rather than cramped.
The centerpiece of the loft is its sleeping arrangement: four twin beds tucked into individual shiplap-lined niches, each with a 30-inch deep drawer box built into the base for real storage, plus a queen bed in the back nook framed by a round window. A built-in dresser and matching drawer bench seat serve the sleeping area, while a window seat bench with cushioned seating makes use of another angled dormer nook. The kitchen holds its own against the rest of the house with a mobile island in stained gray-toned wood with a maple top, white perimeter cabinetry, and a corner drawer solution (“Lazy Stephen”) that eliminates the dead blind-corner space common in smaller kitchens. Laundry is fully hidden behind a set of cabinet doors, keeping the sitting area free of visible appliances.
The Lakefront Loft custom guest house was built in Green Lake, and it’s a great example of how much livable space Bigfoot Construction can build into an over-the-garage or bonus space for homeowners throughout Eastern Wisconsin, including Appleton, Madison, Milwaukee, Kohler, Elkhart Lake, and Green Bay. If your own garage, attic, or bonus room could become real guest space instead of storage, reach out to start the conversation.
